August 25, 2020: Goosefish
This goosefish (Lophiodes beroe) was observed at ~640 meters (~2,100 feet) depth during 2018 exploration of an unnamed mound in East Breaks (EB) 1009, an area of the Gulf of Mexico that had never before been explored using deep-sea submersibles. These fish are fairly common at about 600-800 meters (~1,970-2,625 feet) deep. A type of anglerfish, the lures of this fish are visible in this image in the center of its face.
