Scientists at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of Natural History had requested to sample a seastar from the genus Cheiraster, before this example was seen at a depth of 386 meters (~1,266 feet) at Behm Canal during Dive 10 of Seascape Alaska 5: Gulf of Alaska Remotely Operated Vehicle Exploration and Mapping expedition. NOAA Ocean Exploration follows guidelines for limited biological sampling.
