Explore Maritime Heritage

Maritime heritage is the study of human involvement with Earth’s large bodies of waters and their coasts. It includes physical sites and artifacts, such as historic shipwrecks and remains of ancient cultures, as well as archival documents and oral histories. Maritime archaeology is the scientific study of the physical remains that represent our maritime heritage that help us understand the interactions of past human cultures with the world’s ocean, lakes and river systems.
