During the Windows to the Deep 2019 expedition, one sea star species frequently encountered was the goniasterid sea star, Plinthaster dentatus, sometimes called a “cookie” or “ravioli” star. This species has been recorded in many trawl-collected specimen records in the past, but what made observations of this species during this expedition significant were the numerous feeding observations made. In this image, several sea stars and a sea urchin are seen feeding on a sponge.
