November 25, 2021: Sea Star Predation
Predation events always generate a lot of excitement among our scientists. This one observed during Dive 09 of the 2019 Southeastern U.S. Deep-sea Exploration was particularly interesting because it featured an unidentified Henricia sea star feeding on a Chondrocladia carnivorous sponge. We had several interesting sponge sightings during this expedition, as described in this mission log, “Not Your Average Sponges.”
