Hydroid Attached to a Dead Coral Stalk

This delicate hydroid was one of many observed attached to a dead coral stalk at a depth of 2,616 meters (8,583 feet) while exploring “Hopscotch” Seamount during Dive 03 of the 2021 North Atlantic Stepping Stones expedition. Belonging to the class Hydrozoa, hydroids are cnidarians, related to corals, sea anemones, and jellies.
