Mastigoteuthid Squid
This mastigoteuthid squid was seen during the Windows to the Deep 2021 Dive 03 midwater transect at 900 meters (2,953 feet) depth. The squid has two long, vertical arms and white tentacles that dangle down from its body. The tentacles have microscopic suckers on them that are very sticky — and thus perfect for catching prey such as small crustaceans that drift by in the water column.
