Squid
This squid, Chiroteuthis sp., was seen at a depth of 1,144 meters (3,753 feet) during Dive 08 of Windows to the Deep 2021. This squid had very large eyes that were rimmed with white dots that are light-producing organs called photophores. The tentacles of these squid are held in a sheath with their extremely long ventral arms; the ventral arms are used to control the tentacles because the tentacles themselves are not very muscular.
