Whaling Ships and Whale Oil

This modern, colorized image shows whaling ships at the dock with barrels filled with whale oil. The systematic hunting of whales and the rendering of their flesh in the extreme heat of tryworks produced oil, which was a major source of wealth for whaling ship owners and their investors as well as pay for the crew.
