If you are a fan of jellies, Dive 07 of the 2023 Shakedown + EXPRESS West Coast Exploration expedition was for you! In addition to the “big red jellyfish” seen close to the seafloor, these red jellyfish (Poralia rufescens) were in high abundance throughout the water column during the dive. While this jelly may look like it’s about to make the jump to hyperspace, the effect is caused by a large volume of marine snow in the water column, suggesting plentiful food for these filter feeding animals.
